Philip Marufu still in our plans: Chapungu

Marufu was among the more than 80 players who were slapped with different bans for having taken part in match-fixed games played in the Far East from 2007 which became known as Asiagate.

The player who has played for Dynamos and crack DRC outfit FC Lupopo said he is yet to receive a letter of suspension from the football mother body, Zifa.

Acroid Moyo, the Chapungu chairman has indicated that they are engaging Zifa to get clarification on the correct position with regards to the status of Marufu before mapping a way forward.

“We are engaging Zifa to map the way forward because at the moment his status with regards to Asiagate is still not clear. I understand other players have been given options of fines but nothing has been said about him and neither has he received a suspension letter.

“At the moment he is training with the team and still in our plans and we will wait to hear from Zifa,” he said.

Meanwhile, “Waru Waru” has acquired six players and these include Hardbody FC pair of striker Callisto Maheya and goalkeeper Alexander Useni.

Other players are from Vumbachikwe and Zifa Northern Region Division One Soccer League side Blue Jets.

Head coach John Nyikadzino said the new additions are meant to strengthen the team and he vowed to win the Zifa Central Soccer League promotional ticket.

“Our aim is to return where we belong that is in the Premiership and the reason we have remained with a largely unchanged side is to have continuity in the side and reinforce the departments where we were found wanting,” said Nyikadzino.
