Pickford chased in 50mph pursuit

ENGLAND shot-stopper Jordan Pickford was pursued by police at 50mph after almost causing a pile-up in his Lamborghini.

The Everton keeper, 32, forced two drivers to slam on their brakes to avoid a crash, then sped off with a blue-light patrol car tailing him.

The incident happened at around 3pm on April 14 in Knutsford, Cheshire, which is close to Pickford’s home.

Three Lions ace Jordan was at the wheel of his £165,000 Lamborghini Urus when he was pulled over just five days before he played in the Merseyside derby.

The incident on April 14 happened three days after Pickford played in David Moyes‘ side’s 2-2 draw away at Brentford and five days before their 2-1 loss in the Merseyside derby against Liverpool.

PC Cecil Ricardo was driving out of Knutsford police station when he spotted the blue 4×4, which had a personalised number plate spelling Pickford’s name.

In his written witness statement, the Cheshire Constabulary officer wrote: “I then witnessed a blue Lamborghini Urus driving along Princess Street.

“It reached the junction with Toft Road, completely ignored the give way lines and pulled onto Toft Road causing two vehicles to slam on their brakes to avoid a collision.

“The Lamborghini then sped down Toft Road, Knutsford. I activated my emergency equipment, lights and sirens and attempted to catch up with the vehicle. At one point on Toft Road my vehicle’s speedometer indicated I was travelling at 50mph and the Lamborghini was still pulling away.

“The speed limit on that stretch of Toft Road is 30mph.”

The officer said the driver “must have seen and heard” his sirens and pulled over after a brief pursuit.

Cheshire Police charged Pickford on September 23 under the Single Justice Procedure, which lets a lone magistrate deal with minor motoring cases on paper behind closed doors.

Pickford entered an online guilty plea last Friday and ticked the box asking to attend court in an apparent bid to avoid a driving ban.

In his submission, the ‘keeper wrote: “I would like to attend court to put forward my mitigation.”

Pickford will appear at Chester magistrates’ court on December 7.

Careless driving carries three to nine penalty points or a ban.

Drivers who ask to attend after admitting the offence usually do so to argue against losing their licence.

The Urus supercar hits 62mph in 3.5 seconds and has a top speed of 190mph.

Pickford joined Everton from boyhood club Sunderland for £25million in 2017 and signed a new four-year deal last October tying him to the Toffees until 2029.

He has been England’s No1 since the 2018 World Cup in Russia and has won 91 caps. –  Sun.
