NEWLY formed sport code pickleball will for the first time hold a trainer of trainers course at Circolo Italiano Sports Club in the capital tomorrow and Sunday.

Zimbabwe Pickleball Association is the national governing body of Pickleball and is a member of the Confederation of Africa Pickleball and the Global Pickleball Federation.

ZPA introduced Pickleball to Zimbabwe recently, and it has gained significant popularity and traction since then.

The sport which was introduced in the country recently is a paddle sport that combines elements of tennis, badminton, and ping-pong.

Most of the Pickleball Trainer of Trainers courses were held in Bulawayo and as a way of spreading the sport throughout the country, ZPA will this weekend conduct the first-ever course in Harare.

Gladness Ndlovu, the vice president of the Zimbabwe Pickleball Association, said they are proud to be hosting the first Harare event at Italiano on Saturday and Sunday.

“We will be training prospective pickleball trainers who will thereafter be certified to train other trainers.

“This event aims to equip Harare residents with a new income-generating stream while growing the sport of pickleball.

“We have managed to introduce it to several schools, orphanages, and sports clubs after we have had a pickleball trainer of trainers in Bulawayo and also a graduation ceremony, which was graced by the Ministry of Sports,” said Ndlovu. Pickleball is played on a smaller court with a lightweight perforated plastic ball and solid paddles.

Due to its court size and simple and accessible game play, it can be played by people of all ages and skill levels, making it a popular recreational activity and one of the fastest-growing sports in the world.
