Patrick Chitumba

GWERU residents have endured a three-day water outage, prompting them to seek alternative sources that may be unsafe.

According to Ms Vimbai Chingwaramusee, the Gweru City Council spokesperson, the crisis stems from a significant pipe burst on the mainline supplying water from the Gwenhoro treatment plant.

“We have a serious major burst pipe along our mainline from Gwenhoro dam, ” she said.

Ms Chingwaramusee said they have been experiencing some challenges on the water reticulation system of late.

“We are experiencing water burst pipes on the mainline due to several factors, including high pressure, increased water pressure can put additional stress on pipes, leading to bursts,” he said.

Ms Chingwaramusee said they are working to identify and repair affected areas, and also implementing measures to prevent constant occurrences.
