Piped water scheme complete

A piped-water scheme for the Hurungwe community whose ground-breaking ceremony was held in March this year, has been completed with the community now having access to clean and potable water.

The Kajekache Piped-Water Scheme was mooted by the Government through its rural development drive under Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) with partners UNICEF and Welthungerhilfe (WHH) Zimbabwe bankrolling it.

It is serving at least three villages, two schools and a clinic in Ward 16.

Provincial WASH chairman and Rural Infrastructure Development Agency (RIDA) Mashonaland West head, Mr Erikana Chikande said the scheme was successfully completed last month.

The district has two other similar projects at Nyama and Mudzimu areas.

“The Kajekache Piped-Water Scheme has been completed and villagers, institutions and shopping centre have been connected. Efforts are also in motion to have the other two to be completed soon so that we cut the distance that is walked by people to access the precious liquid,” he said.

During last week’s Cabinet media briefing, Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister, Senator Monica Mutsvangwa said the Mudzimu project was above 60 percent complete.

“In the water and sanitation sector, the Minister highlighted progress as follows; the Mudzimu Piped Water Scheme in Hurungwe District, Mashonaland West Province is at 60 percent completion;” she said.

The life-changing Kajekache project, has brought joy and smiles to over six thousand people.

One of the beneficiaries, Ms Ketai Zhuwao said the project had started to improve the lives of many people in the area. — HR.
