A 33-year-old Harare man lost a Mercedes Benz C200, an A20 Samsung cellphone and US$180 to four armed robbers, who included a woman, he had offered a lift along the Harare-Bulawayo Highway.

The man had offered the robbers a lift near Dzivaresekwa turn-off at about 9pm on February 9 after they indicated they were going to Norton.

National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the incident.

“The complainant offered a lift to three men and a woman at Dzivaresekwa turn-off, Harare, on the pretext that they were going to Norton,” he said.

“Along the way, the suspects produced two unidentified pistols and threatened to kill the complainant while demanding cash. They stole the complainant’s valuables and cut the seat belts of the vehicle before tying him on a tree in a bush area at Hunyani Bridge. They then drove off in the complainant’s vehicle towards Harare.”

No arrests have been made so far.
