HIGHLANDERS have cranked up the stakes ahead of their heavyweight Castle Lager Premier Soccer League clash against FC Platinum, by announcing a hike in gate charges for Sunday’s showdown at Barbourfields Stadium.

In a bold move, underscoring the magnitude of the fixture, Bosso have bumped the standard entry fee from the usual US$3 to US$5. Fans looking for an upgraded matchday experience will have to part with US$10 for VIP tickets, while VVIP access will now cost US$20.

Bosso, backed by arguably the most passionate and loyal fan base in the country, are banking on the significance of the encounter to fill up Emagumeni. With FC Platinum, the four-time champions, considered genuine title contenders, this match is being billed as one of the biggest of the campaign so far.

The Bulawayo giants will be eager to rewrite last season’s painful script, when FC Platinum completed a league double over them, winning 2-0 in Zvishavane and 1-0 in the reverse fixture at Barbourfields. This time around, Highlanders are buoyed by a convincing 2-0 victory away to Yadah last weekend, their first triumph on the road this season.

FC Platinum, on the other hand, are navigating a rough patch. The Zvishavane-based side have been blowing hot and cold in recent weeks, with their most recent result being a goalless draw against Ngezi Platinum in the Platinum Derby. As it stands, they sit eighth on the table with 14 points, three behind Highlanders, who occupy fourth with 17.
Sunday’s fixture promises fireworks, with both teams known for playing a fluid, attacking brand of football that excites neutrals and die-hard fans alike.

“This is a must-watch for any true football lover,” said one fan on social media, a sentiment shared by many who expect a packed Barbourfields for the crunch tie.

Football analyst Dalubuhle Bhebhe says he’s been impressed by Highlanders’ upward trajectory in recent weeks.
“I think there’s been marked improvement from Highlanders, especially when you look at how they’re no longer conceding in the dying minutes. The team seems to have improved in terms of energy levels and match fitness, which is a huge positive.

“They’re bringing on youngsters in the second half, who are energetic and inject the much-needed tempo to help the team close out games. These young boys are hungry and play with purpose. Their presence helps sustain pressure up front and shore up the back when needed,” Bhebhe said.

He believes match fitness is coming naturally now as players build momentum with more game time under their belts.

“Because of the consistent run of games, players are reaching match sharpness. From this point onward, we should be seeing them performing closer to their optimum level.”

Another major plus for Bosso, Bhebhe noted, is the return to form of striker,Reason Sibanda.
“He had been struggling, getting chances but failing to convert. Now, he seems to have found his scoring boots, which is a very good sign. When a striker hits the net, confidence flows, and you can see that in his body language now.

“The combination play and tactical structure being implemented by the technical team is starting to gel. Yes, it’s still a work in progress, but there’s big improvement. Credit must go to the coaching staff for the hard work behind the scenes.”

Sunday’s tie is not only about points, it’s about pride, momentum, and making a statement in the title race.
Meanwhile, matchday 11 serves up several other intriguing fixtures across the country. In-form log leaders MWOS will host TelOne at Ngoni Stadium in what could be a tricky tie.
