ZIMBABWE football champions FC Platinum will continue with their search for a maiden Caf Champions League group stages victory when they play host to Sudanese giants Al Hilal in a Group B encounter set for Barbourfields Stadium on Saturday.
In their previous fixture against the same side the Zvishavane platinum miners suffered a 2-1 defeat at the Al-Hilal Stadium, with 2019 Soccer Star of the year finalist Never Tigere scoring their consolation nine minutes from full-time after Mohamad Musa Eldai had scored a goal either side of the half for the hosts.
Platinum, who have lost thrice (Al Hilal 2 FC Platinum 1, FC Platinum 0 Etoile du Sahel 3, Al Ahly 2 FC Platinum 0) and drawn once against Egyptian giants Al Ahly in this 2019/ 2020 campaign, sit at the bottom of the table with one point with a wanting goal difference of -6.
On Saturday, Pure Platinum Play will have their newly hired head coach Hendrik Pieter de Jongh on the bench for the first time after putting pen to paper and they boast of a clean health bill.
“Our new head coach De Jongh has finally got his work permit and he will sit on the bench on Saturday. Our preparations for the game against Al Hilal have gone well and we have no injury worries,” said FC Platinum media liaison officer Chido Chizondo.
FC Platinum made their debut in the group stages of Africa’s premier club competition last term and they finished the group stages without a win while managing to score just two goals throughout the group campaign and conceding nine.
