Players take Black Boots to court

Midlands Correspondent
SEVEN players whose contracts were unilaterally terminated by Zifa Southern Region Division One league side Black Boots have taken the club for conciliation.

The contracts of Ronald Gumede, Simon Njeleza, James Chikwenga, Dumisani Ncube, Ntokozo Tshuma, Trevor Ncube and Prince Nkomo were terminated during the second transfer window in July, but they were not given their settlement as their contracts were supposed to run up to the end of December.

The players are being represented by the Footballers’ Union of Zimbabwe (FUZ).

“We write on behalf of the above mentioned who are members of our union and please take note of our interest in this matter.

“Our members were issued with contract termination letters, which in our view are in violation of the Labour Act provisions on contract termination,” a FUZ letter signed by secretary-general Paul Gundani read.

“We do appreciate that your club is said to be bankrupt but that doesn’t allow the club to violate the labour laws.

“We would appreciate if you could withdraw the letters you sent to our members and follow the laid down procedures as defined in the Labour Act.

“Failure to do so will leave us with no option but to approach the Labour Court for redress.”

Gundani said the police outfit did not respond to the letter, which prompted FUZ to approach the Ministry of Labour and Social Services for conciliation.

“After taking the conciliation route, Black Boots then requested for an out of court settlement, which we agreed to and they’ve until this Friday to come back to us over the issue.

“If they fail to do so, we’ll be left with no option but to go back to the relevant authorities to seek recourse,” said Gundani.
