PLUMTREE police have launched a manhunt for a motorist involved in a hit-and-run accident that claimed the lives of two pedestrians in Figtree, in Bulilima District.

In a statement, the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) appealed to members of the public to provide information that could lead to the arrest of the suspect.

“The ZRP is investigating a fatal hit-and-run road traffic accident, which occurred on January 31, 2026, at around 4.30AM at the 36-kilometre peg along the Bulawayo–Plumtree Road,” said police.

“We are appealing to anyone with information that could lead to the arrest of the motorist to contact their nearest police station. Say no to hit-and-run road traffic accidents.”

The victims were identified as Albert Nkomo (24) and Xolani Mguni (39), both from Figtree.

Police said the two men were struck by an unknown vehicle while travelling to Mncwazini Village in Figtree and died on the spot.

“A mudguard suspected to be from a Mazda X5 vehicle was recovered at the scene,” police said.

The matter was reported to Plumtree police, and the bodies were taken to Plumtree District Hospital mortuary for post-mortem examinations.
