Plumtree residents to endure water rationing

PLUMTREE Town Council has introduced water rationing due to a low water level in the town’s main supply dam.

In a statement Acting Town Secretary, Elvis Maphosa said water rationing will begin next Monday for 12 hours per day until further notice.

‘’The Plumtree Town will be starting water rationing from 1 August 2016. The water levels have reached critical levels at Mhlanga Dam because of low rains.

‘’Efforts are being made to resuscitate the Mangwe pipeline under the Unicef 14 towns project.

‘‘Residents are advised not to panic as efforts are being made to ensure continued water supply.

‘‘In the meantime water will be pumped for 12 hours and 30 minutes daily,’’ said Mr Maphosa.
He said under the rationing programme, water will be pumped daily from 5AM to 10AM and between 12noon and 14:30PM as well as from 4PM to 9PM.

Mr Maphosa recently said they had submitted a bid for $300,000 to Unicef for the rehabilitation of a 79 kilometre water pipeline from Mangwe Dam to the town.

A Plumtree resident, Mrs Agnes Sibanda said she hoped that the council would stick to the announced rationing schedule.

‘’I hope that the schedule which the council has issued will be the one which they will stick to.

‘‘We expect the problem to be rectified soon so that we don’t experience severe water rationing,’’ said Mrs Sibanda.
