PLUMTREE Town Council will from Monday October 19, launch the Operation Tjenesa programme which will see relocation of public services vehicles from former pick and drop points to the only designated area, Dingumuzi Rank.

The development which has been met with mixed feelings is set to bring sanity in the border town around the Central Business District.

In a statement on Wednesday, Plumtree Town Secretary Mr Thembalami Nyoni through Notice 27 of 2026 announced the Operation Tjenesa plan.

“Council hereby advises all public transport operators (PSVs) plying the Bulilima, Mangwe, Bulawayo and other transit routes that with effect from 19 October 2026, all Public service vehicles are instructed to move from Ephaneni Rank to Dingumuzi Rank.

“This directive also includes all in-transit public service vehicles to other areas outside the country, their first point of call for pick and drop within Plumtree shall be Dingumuzi Rank. This measure is in line with Council’s Operation Tjenesa drive aimed at restoring order in the Central Business District and designated industrial areas. All operators are expected to comply. Non-compliance will not be condoned,” said Mr Nyoni.

Public transport operators have been scattered all around the town posing a health hazard as all of these points have no functional ablution facilities.

Those using the Thekwane Road to access the Plumtree-Ndolwane and Plumtree-Tsholotsho roads are currently using Ephaneni Rank as the pick up and drop off point.

Those using the Station Road to access Plumtree-Madlambudzi and Plumtree-Maitengwe roads use the open space opposite ZESA offices as their pick up and drop off points.

Those travelling to Bulawayo have been using the open space in front of Plumtree High, Plumtree Bakery and mostly a bus stop at the Plumtree-Bulawayo highway. Those travelling to Botswana use an open space opposite Petrotrade Garage along the Plumtree-Francistown highway.
