PLUMTREE Town Council has suspended a municipal guard following an altercation with the Town Secretary, Mr Thembelani Nyoni, at the council offices this week.
Mr Busani Moyo, a guard employed by the municipality, was suspended with immediate effect on allegations of insulting and undermining the office of the Town Secretary, in what the council has described as a serious breach of its code of conduct.
According to sources, the incident occurred on Monday when Mr Moyo visited Mr Nyoni’s office to follow up on a request relating to an advance salary form. The situation reportedly escalated after Mr Nyoni advised him that a medical examination report was required for the claim to be processed.
It is alleged that Mr Moyo, who appeared frustrated by the response and concerned about his health, became angered when Mr Nyoni declined to entertain his explanation. In a fit of rage, he reportedly struck Mr Nyoni twice using the advance form and his medical book.
Mr Nyoni considered the conduct a gross violation of workplace ethics and immediately moved to suspend Mr Moyo.
Mr Moyo was suspended indefinitely without pay and is expected to appear before a disciplinary committee, where he will answer to charges of misconduct and insubordination.
