A harrowing tale of alleged sexual abuse has emerged from Plumtree, exposing the plight of a young lesbian woman who claims to have been raped by her uncle.
Dalubuhle Ncube, a resident of Plumtree, has accused her uncle, Mthokozisi Ncube, a prominent Zanu-PF member in the district, of the heinous act.
According to a relative who spoke to the media on condition of anonymity, Dalubuhle’s ordeal began after the tragic death of her father, Julius Ncube, in November 2021. The family allegedly turned against her, blaming her sexual orientation for a series of misfortunes that befell the family.
“They started accusing her of practicing a taboo act and bringing bad luck to the family,” the relative revealed. “Her uncle, Mthokozisi, was particularly harsh on her, vowing to ‘correct’ her sexuality for the sake of the family’s well-being.”
The relative further disclosed that on the fateful day, Dalubuhle walked in on her uncle in the act of raping her. She was able to identify him by his voice.
Despite reporting the incident to the police, the family claims that law enforcement authorities refused to take action, citing a lack of evidence.
“We suspect that the police’s reluctance to pursue the case is due to Mthokozisi’s political connections within Zanu-PF,” the relative alleged. “His position as a senior party member in the district seems to have shielded him from accountability.”
The alleged victim’s family is now seeking justice and calling for a thorough investigation into the matter. They fear that without intervention, Dalubuhle’s ordeal may continue, and other vulnerable individuals could face similar abuse.
Efforts to reach Mthokozisi Ncube for comment were unsuccessful.
In light of this disturbing incident, law enforcement agencies must conduct a thorough and impartial investigation to bring the perpetrator to justice. It is equally important for authorities to provide support and protection to victims of sexual violence, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity.
We urge the Zimbabwe Republic Police to prioritize this case and take swift action to ensure that justice is served. Additionally, we call upon the Zimbabwe Human Rights Commission and other relevant organizations to monitor the situation and advocate for the rights of LGBTQ+ individuals.
It is time to break the silence surrounding sexual violence and create a society where everyone feels safe and protected.
