Plus-sized ladies who are between the ages of 18-30 years are being invited to register to enter the Royal Miss Vithikazi 2023 contest before July 22.

The beauty pageant which is in its second edition will be held under the theme: “Embracing self-identity and preserving heritage”.

Event organisers – Silimela Events chief executive officer Thandekile Ndlovu said the pageant seeks to do away with the traditional phenomenon that only slim women make the grade in modelling. Generally, plus-sized women have not been celebrated much as there are only a few pageants like Miss Curvy that embrace them.

“We intend to encourage women to embrace themselves, unlike other pageants that encourage women to go through the process of slimming in order to be models. We want plus-sized women for our pageant because we believe that all women are beautiful despite their sizes,” Ndlovu said.

Last year, the inaugural pageant was held at the National Art Gallery of Zimbabwe in Bulawayo with Chidadiso Mbazo being crowned queen. – @TashaMutsiba
