POLICE in Mashonaland West have intensified their crackdown on cattle rustlers following the arrest of three suspects linked to a stock theft syndicate in Mhondoro.
Dehwa Chivambe (49) of Makuvire Village of Mhondoro, Cosmas Dube (22) of Gokwe and Tanaka Chimutedza (19) of Mhondoro were arrested last week.
Mashonaland West provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Ian Kohwera, told H-Metro that investigations began after police received information that Chivambe was keeping cattle allegedly supplied by Dube and Chimutedza under suspicious circumstances.
Dube and Chimutedza were employed by farmer and businessman Malvern Pazvakavambwa, who is currently based outside the country.
Acting on the information, police arrested Dube and Chimutedza.
During questioning, the two allegedly confessed that they had stolen their employer’s cattle.
Police tracked down and arrested Chivambe in Waterfalls, Harare, and investigations led detectives to a herd of 98 cattle found in Chivambe’s custody.
