Police have bemoaned the rise in crimes of passion in the country, after two women were murdered by their husbands in separate incidents in Harare last week following misunderstandings. Chief police spokesperson Senior Assistant Commissioner Charity Charamba yesterday confirmed the two murders which took place in Harare suburbs.
“Police is concerned with cases of domestic violence which lead to gruesome murders that leave communities shell-shocked,” she said.
Snr Asst Comm Charamba said on September 19, at around 7.30am, a 35-year-old woman was found dead in a pool of blood in Marimba.
Snr Asst Comm Charamba said the woman had had an argument with her husband the previous day at around 8pm over the upkeep of their child.
The suspect has since been arrested.
In the other murder, a 27-year-old woman was found dead in Waterfalls with a deep cut on her throat following a misunderstanding with her husband last Satur- day.
The suspect’s whereabouts are still unknown and police are urging anyone with information that might lead to his arrest to contact any nearest police station or the National Complaints Desk on (04) 703631.
“We are also urging couples to solve their differences without resorting to violence,” said Snr Asst Comm Charamba. “When the two fail to agree they should seek counselling from church elders, police and local leaders.”
Last month, police expressed concern with the sudden increase in murder cases recorded countrywide.
The murders stemmed from domestic violence, adultery and altercations or misunderstandings.
A Gokwe man recently axed his pregnant wife to death and committed suicide after he allegedly caught her with her ex-husband in a compromising position on their matrimonial bed.
A Harare club disc jockey allegedly murdered his girlfriend and brutally attacked her suspected lover after he caught them being intimate in Queensdale recently.
