Police in Bulawayo and EcoCash are today holding an anti-crime awareness campaign in Bulawayo aimed at equipping EcoCash agents with skills to combat robberies, fraud and scams that continue to target mobile money operators across the city.

The awareness campaign, being held in partnership between the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) and EcoCash, brings together agents from across Bulawayo as part of efforts to strengthen crime prevention, improve security consciousness and enhance collaboration between law enforcement and the mobile financial services provider.

Officer Commanding Bulawayo Province, Commissioner Japer Chizema, is the guest of honour and is expected to deliver the keynote address, outlining measures being adopted by the police to curb crimes targeting EcoCash agents and promote safer business operations.

The campaign comes against the backdrop of growing concern over robberies, fraud and other criminal activities affecting mobile money agents, including fake proof of payment messages, identity theft, social engineering scams and armed robberies in which criminals target agents handling large sums of cash.
