Police get tough on errant motorists, launch “safe corridor” operation

Police have launched operation “safe corridor”, targeting traffic violations and vehicle activities that cause congestion, chaos, road accidents and obstruct the smooth flow of traffic on the roads, within central business districts and surrounding areas in the country

LAW enforcement agents have taken a proactive stance to tame the traffic jungle resulting from lawlessness by errant motorists that causes congestion, chaos and accidents countrywide in order to uphold safety and security for road users.
This comes in the wake of a stern warning issued by police over motorists driving vehicles without registration number plates and those fitted with unauthorised gadgets like sirens, blue lights, bar lights and beams.
National police spokesperson, Commissioner Paul Nyathi, said law enforcement agents are getting tough as a way of effectively maintaining law and order that could result in vehicles being impounded.
“The Zimbabwe Republic Police has launched a comprehensive operation dubbed “safe corridor” targeting traffic violations and vehicle activities that cause congestion, chaos, road accidents and obstruct the smooth flow of traffic on the roads, within central business districts and surrounding areas in the country.
“The operation, which commenced on Monday, August 31 is targeting, among others, vehicles which are breaking down along highways, major roads and CBDs, with some left unattended for extended periods not displaying red reflective triangles. This poses danger to other road users and increase the risk of road traffic accident in the country” he said.
Commissioner Nyathi warned motorists against parking and picking or dropping passengers at undesignated points as this obstructs the smooth flow of traffic.
He called on the public to comply with the police during execution of their duties.
“ZRP urges the public to cooperate with police officers as they carry out their duties of maintaining law and order, road safety, easing traffic congestion and ensuring smooth flow of traffic throughout the country.
