POLICE in Mutare have launched a manhunt for five armed robbers who recently robbed a 25-year-old they had given a ride to Harare.

Manicaland police spokesperson Inspector Tavhiringwa Kakohwa said Simbarashe Mhonda of 27 Henry Street, Florida, Mutare, was robbed of US$20, $15 RTGS, a tablet, iPhone and satchel with clothes.

“Mhonda hitched a ride to Harare in a silver Toyota Wish, which had three men and a woman at around 10am at Zuva Service Station, he said. After about five kilometres, the driver picked up another person.”

Insp Kakohwa said on reaching Nyazura, the driver turned into the Nyazura-Murambinda Road and travelled for about 10km.

The robbers, he said, then dumped Mhonda, who was later rescued by a well-wisher.

He reported the matter at ZRP Mutare Central.
