Police in Karoi are hunting for two suspected armed robbers who robbed three women of cash and other valuables at gunpoint on Tuesday.

The duo, in the company of their accomplice who is already in police custody, had offered the women transport from Karoi to Chirundu, before robbing them along the way.

Provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Margaret Chitove, said a manhunt had since been launched to apprehend the culprits.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) said on its twitter handle that the robbers dumped the three women in a bushy area in Magunje after robbing them of US$2 990, ZWL$800, cellphones and other valuables.

It also confirmed the arrest of one of the suspects, Langton Garande (27).

“The suspect, together with his two accomplices who are still at large, offered a lift to three women in their Toyota Mark X vehicle on the pretext that they were going to Chirundu, at Gazebo bar,” said ZRP.

“Upon reaching the 209km peg along Hre-Chirundu Rd the driver stopped the vehicle and the other suspects produced an unidentified firearm and a knife while demanding cash from the complainants.

“The trio robbed the complainants of cash amounting to US$2 990, ZWL$800, cellphones and other valuables before dumping them in a bushy area in Magunje.”
