Police hunt for serial rapist

The man is alleged to have raped four women in Dzivaresekwa in two weeks last month. Harare provincial police spokesperson Inspector James Sabau yesterday said the man used the same tactic on his victims.
He said on July 25 this year, the man allegedly approached a 28-year-old woman and posed as an employment agent.

“The unsuspecting woman walked with him and when they were opposite Mother Touch in Dzivaresekwa, he grabbed her and raped her once before disappearing,” he said.
Inspector Sabau said on September 4 at around 5:30pm in the same area, the suspect approached a 22-year-old woman and lied that he had been sent by her sister to show her their new maize field.
The man allegedly raped her once before disappearing.

Insp Sabau said on September 14 the man approached a 23-year-old woman and lied to her that he wanted to show her the family’s new piece of land to cultivate.
The man allegedly raped the woman and disappeared.
“On September 17 at around 4pm, the accused approached a 16-year-old girl who was working in her parents’ field.

“He told her that her parents had bought another piece of land and he had been sent to show her.”
He raped the girl in the area between Dzivaresekwa and the Ministry of Defence plot.

“He gave her US$10 before running away,” he said.
Insp Sabau said on September 9, the man used the same method to lure a 14-year-old girl to the bush and raped her once before apologising and disappearing.

Inspector Sabau warned women against using pathways through maize fields as they risk being raped.
