Police in Harare have intensified their manhunt for five armed robbers who attacked a security guard at a business premises in Alexandra Park, Harare, early Tuesday morning last week and stole over US$135 700, four inverters, two batteries, a laptop and two computers.
The gang hit the business in College Road on the eastern side of the University of Zimbabwe at around 2.30am and attacked the 53-year-old security guard on duty before tying his hands and legs.
They then ransacked the offices and stole the two safes containing US$135 712, the inverters and computers.
The matter is being handled by detectives from CID Homicide section which deals with extreme violent crime as well as murder.
No arrests have been made.
National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said police have since intensified investigations into the case and warned people against keeping large amounts of money in cash.

Last week, police also intensified investigations into a case in which three armed robbers attacked a security guard with iron bars at a steel company in Rusape at around 1:28am last Saturday and got away with US$25 000 held in a safe.
After attacking the security guard, the robbers handcuffed him using his handcuffs before ransacking the offices.
Last month, six armed robbers who are still at large raided KFC Zimbabwe head office along Hillside Road Extension near Mukuvisi Woodlands in Harare after midnight and got away with US$50 000, R30 000 and $19 000 after manhandling a security guard at the premises. The six, who were wearing masks and armed with a pistol, blasted a safe which was in one of the offices where they took away the cash.
