POLICE in Tsholotsho have pledged to strengthen public confidence by improving service delivery, professionalism, accountability and transparency following the relaunch of the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) Client Service Charter.
The commitment was made during the relaunch of the charter at the Tsholotsho Bus Terminus on Wednesday, where police officers, community leaders and residents gathered to reaffirm their partnership in promoting peace and security.
Speaking at the event, officer in charge of Tsholotsho Police Station, Inspector Farai Tawasika, acknowledged that public trust in the police had declined in some instances and pledged to restore confidence through improved service.
“The trust between the police and the public has, in some instances, deteriorated like a village well silted up. Today, we commit ourselves to clearing that well,” said Insp Tawasika.
“The Client Service Charter is not merely a document but a solemn promise and a handshake extended to every person in Tsholotsho.”
He said the charter embodies the ZRP’s guiding principles of Pro Lege, Pro Patria, Pro Populo—for the law, for the nation and for the people—and serves as a public commitment to delivering quality policing services.
Insp Tawasika said the charter places emphasis on professionalism, prompt response to reports, transparency in handling cases and respect for every citizen seeking police assistance.
“Members of the public should expect courteous treatment, prompt service and regular feedback on reported cases through the use of reference numbers and clear communication,” he said.
“We are reinvigorating our policing through unwavering efficiency and a professional standard that serves all our clients. The police officer you meet should not be defined only by the uniform they wear, but by their integrity, respect and commitment to justice.”
He said police had taken note of concerns raised by members of the public in communities, marketplaces and through the media regarding service delivery.
“We have heard the stories, read the concerns and felt the yearning for improved police service in Tsholotsho. This charter represents our commitment to continuous improvement and to restoring the confidence of the people we serve,” he said.
Insp Tawasika stressed that effective policing requires active collaboration between law enforcement agencies and the communities they serve.
“The Charter is our shovel, our bucket and our promise of clean and clear water for all. It is also a call for the community to work hand in hand with the police because fighting crime is a shared responsibility,” he said.
He reaffirmed the station’s commitment to meeting the needs and expectations of the people of Tsholotsho through enhanced accountability and improved service delivery.
“Our shared security depends not only on individual vigilance but on our collective determination. Together, we can build a safer and more secure Tsholotsho for everyone,” said Insp Tawasika.
