POLICE in Bulawayo have recovered a stolen vehicle in a swift operation in Matshobana after alert officers, on routine traffic enforcement duties, identified a suspicious car matching the description of a vehicle reported stolen from the city centre.

The silver Honda Fit was recovered on Friday morning after officers conducting traffic enforcement operations along Luveve Road noticed it parked opposite a service station with no occupants inside, raising immediate suspicion.

Bulawayo provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Nomalanga Msebele, said the officers acted promptly after realising the vehicle matched details of a car that had earlier been reported stolen in the central business district.

Swift investigations were launched at the scene, resulting in the successful recovery of the vehicle before it could be moved or concealed.

Insp Msebele said efforts are now underway to track down and arrest the suspects linked to the theft.

“The officers observed a silver Honda Fit parked opposite a service station in Matshobana with no occupants inside. The vehicle matched the description of a motor vehicle that had been previously reported stolen in Bulawayo Central Business District. Investigations led to the successful recovery of the vehicle. Efforts to locate the suspects are in progress.”

The latest recovery comes as police continue efforts to curb vehicle theft and other property-related crimes in the city, amid growing concern over such offences.

Insp Msebele appealed to members of the public who may have information that could assist with the investigation to come forward and report to the nearest police station.

She also commended the vigilance and professionalism of the officers whose sharp observation led to the breakthrough.

“We appeal to members of the public with information that may assist in the arrest of the accused person to come forward and report at any nearest police station,” she said.

Insp Msebele reiterated the importance of community cooperation in the fight against crime, noting that public support remains vital in tracking down suspects and recovering stolen property.
