Police in Harare are searching for a woman identified as Unity Chitumba following reports that she allegedly organised illegal gatherings described as “gay parties” at her home, authorities said on Tuesday.

Police said in a statement they had received several complaints about the events and were investigating.

“We have received numerous complaints alleging that Unity has been hosting unauthorised gatherings at her home, which allegedly involve illegal gay parties,” reads the statement. “A former domestic worker has also provided information related to activities at the property.”

Investigators are working to locate Unity for questioning.

A neighbour, who requested anonymity, said there had been frequent late-night gatherings at the residence.

“There’s been talk in the neighbourhood about parties at her house,” the neighbour said. “Some people are concerned because they go against community norms.”

Police urged anyone with information about Unity’s whereabouts or the alleged events to contact authorities.

“We are appealing to the public of her whereabouts because she is nolonger residing at her place,” reads the statement.
