Mwonzora, who paid an admission of guilty fine of US$10, also reportedly attempted to run over police officers who had waved him to stop near the roundabout popularly known as KuMbudzi.
Police spokesperson Superintendent Andrew Phiri yesterday confirmed the arrest of Mwonzora who is also the Parliamentary Constitutional Select Committee co-chairperson.
“He was arrested by officers from Mbare Traffic deployed to enforce traffic laws at the roundabout at around 1120hrs. At that time he arrived and dangerously parked his vehicle and started ferrying passengers with his Nissan Hardbody NP300 truck white in colour (registration number ABK 8221),” he said.
Supt Phiri said Mwonzora was approached and waved to stop, but attempted to run over the officers before one of them smashed the windscreen with a button stick, forcing him to stop.
The MP was then fined under ticket number Z69 J 887282. “We want to challenge Members of Parliament to lead by example. And of late we have been carrying out awareness campaigns, urging people to desist from using private transport and for motorists to observe traffic laws.”
