THE Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has warned pedestrians against crossing roads at undesignated points in city centres, urging them to use designated crossing points to improve road safety.
Addressing members of the media at the Smart Traffic Management System Command Centre today, ZRP national spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi said pedestrians who disregard the rules would face the law.
“We want people to cross at designated points and the laws are there to be applied on those not adhering to this requirement,” said Commissioner Nyathi.
The media visit was part of the police’s awareness programme to demonstrate how the Smart Traffic Management System operates and how it can assist in enforcing road traffic rules and regulations.
The initiative is aimed at improving compliance with road safety regulations, particularly in central business districts, where pedestrian and vehicular traffic often converge.
