Policeman accused of stealing radio

Funhiro (23), a constable stationed at Milton Park Police Station, has since appeared in court charged with theft, as defined in Section 113 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform).
Funhiro was not formally charged when he appeared before Harare magistrate Ms Victoria Mashamba, who remanded him out of custody to September 14 this year on US$20 bail.

Prosecutor Ms Francisca Mukumbiri had told the court that she was not ready for trial because one of the State witnesses was not in attendance.
It is the State’s case that on June 13, Funhiro reported for duty in the morning clad in police uniform.

It is alleged that later in the day Funhiro stole a Datron hand held radio serial Number 000392 worth R411 at the station.
The Datron radio was discovered missing the following day during a hand over of duty, the court heard.
Efforts to locate the radio were fruitless, and it was only recovered from Funhiro at the corner of Julius Nyerere and Robert Mugabe on August 11 leading to his arrest.
