Politburo meets over primary elections

Zanu-PF’s Politburo meets on Wednesday to discuss primary election modalities as the ruling party prepares for the 2018 harmonised elections.

At a Matabeleland South Zanu-PF Provincial Co-ordinating Committee meeting in Gwanda yesterday, party National Spokesperson Ambassador Simon Khaya Moyo urged aspiring candidates to wait for the primary election guidelines.

He said, “Do not be misled by rumour mongers who are saying primary elections will be held on March 15 or 16. The Politburo will decide on that on Wednesday and I will issue an official statement afterwards.”

Ambassador Moyo told the PCC that Zanu-PF should strive to retain all 13 Parliamentary seats in Matabeleland South.

“I am disappointed by back-biting and gossiping in the province; stop it. Let’s learn from our principled leaders such as the late Vice-President (Joseph) Msika. Many of our national heroes and liberation war stalwarts hail from this province such as the late Father Zimbabwe, VP Joshua Nkomo, Jason Moyo, George Silundika, Edward Ndlovu, Tenjiwe Lesabe, among others.

“Given that rich history, we want to continue leading by example and win the 13 seats in the next elections. Let’s remain united and win the forthcoming elections.”

Ambassador Moyo said Zanu-PF would win the elections resoundingly.

“The President (Cde Emmerson Mnangagwa) made it clear that the elections will be free, fair and credible.

‘‘He has already called on observers from around the world, so let’s all prepare for the elections,” he said.

He commended war veterans for standing by the ruling party; and also urged all Zimbabweans to complement President Mnangagwa’s efforts to fight corruption.

“Those who externalised funds should return the money or face the music after March 19,” said Ambassador Moyo.

The meeting endorsed the dismissal of party members Saul Mahalima Ncube, Johns Nkomo, Siphethokuhle Moyo, Sister Bhebhe, Ephraim Moyo and Christopher Masuku.
