Political tensions escalate: couple abandons house due to targeted attacks

Chronicle Reporter

A family in Gwabalanda suburb, Bulawayo, has abandoned their home after a series of targeted attacks and harassment from unknown individuals.

Jabulani Ndebele and Millicent Moyo, the couple, have fled their residence, citing fear for their lives.

According to a neighbour, who wished to remain anonymous, the couple had been experiencing strange occurrences at night, including unexplained knocks on their doors and attempts to break into their property.

The neighbour revealed that the couple suspects they are being targeted due to their relationship with Mqondisi Moyo, the president of the Mthwakwazi Republic Party (MRP), who is also Millicent’s father’s younger brother.

The neighbour revealed that the family had been constantly threatened and ordered to dissociate themselves from the MRP and Moyo.

The neighbour stated, “Mqondisi Moyo would often visit the couple at their home, and we believe this is why they are being targeted. Some people in the community have accused them of sponsoring the MRP, which has led to these attacks.”

The relative added, “The couple has abandoned their house, and we don’t know where they have gone. They confided in us that they fear for their lives and feel unsafe due to these targeted attacks.”

The family’s departure has left the community concerned, with many calling for an end to the harassment and intimidation.

The incident has also raised questions about political tolerance and the safety of individuals with perceived political affiliations.

“The family actually feared to report the matter to the police as they were sceptical that they would get any assistance, as similar occurrences have just been ignored by the authorities.

“Now we are worried about their safety, we do not even know where they went to, we do not know whether they are safe or not,” said the neighbour.

The neighbours have called on the authorities to intervene and an investigation carried out, to ensure the family’s safety and bring the perpetrators to justice.
