in the harmonised elections as the party moves to reclaim ground lost to MDC-T over the last decade.
This was revealed by the party’s national chairman Cde Simon Khaya Moyo during a meeting with Harare Province yesterday.
Cde Khaya Moyo was leading a team comprising national political commissar Cde Webster Shamu and secretary for security Cde Sydney Sekeramayi which was tasked by the Politburo to assess the party’s preparedness for the crucial polls in all provinces.
“The President yesterday said not less than 10 seats for Harare. They will not come through prayer, but through practical efforts and unity of purpose,” he said.
Cde Khaya Moyo urged unity in the party and challenged the Harare province to work towards achieving the set targets.
“To the province, you must meet every week to assess how far you have gone. We cannot spare any minute anymore. Let us be accountable,” he said.
Cde Khaya Moyo said it was high time Zanu-PF stopped distressing President Mugabe by doing wrong things.
“Let us build this massive organisation called Zanu-PF. The President says he feels lonely, he is right. But when we do good things he will not feel lonely. Let us not depress our President when we are supposed to help him. Let us not betray cadres who fell in the struggle by destroying this party,” he said.
Cde Khaya Moyo urged Zanu-PF to vigorously campaign for President Mugabe as the party’s sole presidential candidate in the coming elections.
“He did not choose himself, we chose him. Let us go campaign for our President as our candidate,” he said.
Cde Khaya Moyo said rules governing the holding of primary elections were not yet finalised and as soon as they were out communication to that effect would be made.
He warned against the imposition of candidates as it divided the party.
Cde Khaya Moyo said interaction with provinces had given his team an opportunity to hear their views and this would go a long way in uniting the party. His team has so far visited Bulawayo, Mutare and Harare.
“We are very proud of you. You were very frank.
“You called a spade, a spade. It gives us and the President a clear picture on the state of your preparedness.
“I can assure you, we are not going to subtract or add anything to what you have said. Nobody should feel angry about your frankness . . . We are a family and where I lose track, advise me. Nobody is infallible. We all make mistakes but let us help each other and that is how we build the family,” he said.
The team met Politburo, Central Committee members, war veterans and ex-detainees in meetings that started on Wednesday and ended yesterday at the party’s provincial offices in Harare.
Cde Khaya Moyo predicted a resounding victory for Zanu-PF in the elections saying the party had people-centred policies.
Zanu-PF Harare provincial chairman Cde Amos Midzi pledged to work hard to ensure the party wins seats in Harare.
Zanu-PF won a single seat in Harare South in the 2008 elections out of 29 seats.
Cde Khaya Moyo and his team are expected to visit Masvingo next week.
