CCC leader Mr Nelson Chamisa has once again been left with an egg on his face.
While he is running around like a lunatic seeking to overturn the people’s wishes, his close lieutenants including former CCC spokesperson Ms Fadzayi Mahere are busy celebrating victories earned from the same election he claims was unfair.
Last week, Zimbabweans cast their ballots in arguably the most peaceful and orderly elections with President Mnangagwa retaining the presidency of the country by a 52, 6 percent margin.
The Zanu PF President and First Secretary stormed to victory with 2 350 111 votes ahead of CCC leader Mr Chamisa who garnered 1 967 343 votes, translating to 44 percent.
Typical of the cry baby he is, Mr Chamisa is disputing the outcome of the polls but his lieutenants like Ms Mahere are revelling in their wins and already relishing the prospect of taking their places in Parliament.
Ms Mahere’s endorsement of the polls rubbishes his leader Mr Chamisa’s assertion that the process was flawed.
In fact, it exposes the opposition’s outfit’s duplicity in that when they lose, they cry foul but where they win they claim fairness.
Ms Mahere has wasted no time in updating her profile on her X (former Twitter) handle, where she now refers to herself as a “Constitutional Lawyer | Law Lecturer | Hopeful Zimbabwean | Member of Parliament – Mt Pleasant Constituency”, signalling her acceptance of the results.
On the same handle, she thanks the people of Mt Pleasant for voting her into Parliament.
Mr Chamisa’s antics were always expected being the attention seeking former Pentecostal church preacher that he is. In any case, he has always made it clear he would not accept any other result but a win.
On the day of casting votes, August 23, before vote counting had commenced, Mr Chamisa had already declared himself a winner.
However, reality checks are always the most painful ones, especially when it starts to sink in one’s head, and what will be evident is just disappointment.
Posting on his X handle five days ago, Mr Chamisa wrote: “It’s a decisive win! Election results must unite us and be respected.”
But he has failed to live by his own words, that of respecting the elections results.
Probably, he enjoys being a loose cannon always.
In September 2022, American President Joe Biden said: “Democracy cannot survive when one side believes there’s only two outcomes to an election: either they win, or they were cheated.
“That’s not democracy. And that’s where the vast majority of MAGA Republicans are today. You can’t love your country only when you win.”
These are principles which Mr Chamisa, who always hobnobs with the West, should live by.
Mr Chamisa has to accept that in a democracy, they ought to be a winner and a loser. He was a loser in this instance, and there is no need to talk of rigging where there is none.
He repeats the same thing over and over again while expecting different results, which has been described as foolishness.
I may not be a prophet nor a prophet’s son but the nation should brace for Mr Chamisa’s antics: he will soon claim to have evidence of rigging which will never be produced.
It will be difficult to produce something that never happened.
What actually boggles the mind is that prior to the voting process, Mr Chamisa claimed that he had covered all loopholes used to rig elections.
Addressing a rally at Dulibadzimu Stadium on June 23, he said President Mnangagwa and Zanu PF had no room for rigging.
Indeed, there was no such room as the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission conducted a free, fair and credible election.
It is high time he gets it into his head that life does not and will never revolve around him at the expense of the nation.
Thanks to the digital era, it never forgets. During the voting process when Constituency results started trickling in, giving him an upper hand in urban areas, Mr Chamisa was actually on cloud nine saying everything was being done according to the book.
So what went wrong Mr Chamisa? Please accept defeat and move on.

The other candidates in the presidential race were Mr Joseph Makamba Busha (Free Zim Congress), Mr Trust Chikohora (ZCPD), Mr Blessing Kasiyamhuru (ZIPP), Professor Lovemore Madhuku (NCA), Mr Wilbert Mubaiwa (NPC), Mr Gwinyai Henry Muzorewa (UANC), Mr Douglas Mwonzora (MDC), Ms Elisabeth Valerio (UZA), and Mr Harry Peter Wilson (DOP).
Among them ZCPD president, Mr Chikohora, conceded defeat saying the results of the 2023 harmonised elections announced by ZEC were a reflection of the will of the people.
He also took an opportunity to congratulate President Mnangagwa and Zanu PF on their victory and wished them well as they govern this country in the next five years.
UZA leader, Ms Valerio, who got 6 989 votes, said the outcome of the elections was a good beginning for her party.
Prof Madhuku also thanked Zimbabweans who voted for him and his party saying he appreciates that support and will forever respect it.
Mr Chamisa should at least take a leaf from his fellow party members like Mr Tendai Biti who despite losing their internal polls have decided to swallow the bitter pill and move on with life.
Mr Chamisa, who is now fit to be called a perennial presidential loser, should take solace in that it is not the first time losing.
Instead he should start redirecting his energy towards building the nation as the leader of the opposition in Parliament.
