Polygamous businessman kills wife, commits suicide

A prominent businessman in Magunje, Hurungwe, fatally shot his wife on Friday last week and then turned the gun on himself over allegations of infidelity.
Police in the district have since launched an investigation into the horrific incident that shook Nkani Village where the couple ran a thriving farming business specialising in fishery and cattle rearing.

National police spokesperson, Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the incident and said investigations are underway.

“The ZRP confirms that investigations are underway in connection with a case of suspected murder that occurred in Nkani Village, Hurungwe, on August 2, 2024. More details will be released in due course once the next of kin of the deceased victims have been notified,” said Commissioner Nyathi.

The two bodies (names withheld) were found at the couple’s homestead.

Sources who spoke to The Herald on condition of anonymity said they suspected that allegations of infidelity could have resulted in the incident.
