Manicaland provincial registrar, Mrs Joice Munamati told the committee that they were failing to contain the polygamous families most of whom are members of the apostolic sect within the few days earmarked for the respective areas.
“We have situations where a man comes with about his 15 wives and 40 children wanting to register or take national documents.
“In most cases we would have earmarked two or three days at that particular area. We try very hard to serve them but we have not managed to attend to all of them,” she said
The committee, chaired by Glen View MP, Mr Paul Madzore is visiting various registration centres to assess the situation. Mrs Munamati said she was optimistic that given adequate resources they could go a long way in helping them.
“We are civil servants hence we are there to serve the people.
“If we are given resources there is nothing that would stop us from attending to all of them but the problem is that we would have earmarked few days for the area,”
Turning to voter registration exercise, she said the process was going on well with mainly aliens coming to register.
He said the province had a huge number of refugee camps and the refugees were flocking to the centre seeking to be registered but they where screening them to ascertain their nationality.
Earlier on, Mashonaland Central provincial Registrar, Mr Augustine Tsuro said while the exercise was going on well their challenge was due to a shortage of cameras and generators.
He said their mobile registration teams in the province had to share cameras owing to their shortage.
Long queues characterised the exercise when the committee arrived in Bindura, Nyachuru secondary school in Mazowe and in Mutare.
