THE Zimbabwe Pool Association (ZIPA) board member marketing Archie Scholtz has revealed that their annual champions league contest set to take place on February 24 and 25 in Chinhoyi will have its group matches played on a race to five frames basis.
The one who reaches five wins first wins the tie.
Scholtz said the competition, which will be staged at Chinhoyi’s Jongwe Dotcom Tavern, will have its semi-final matches played on a race of seven, final and third play-off will be played to race of nine.
Race to five matches will be played for 70 minutes and race to seven games will last an hour plus 40 minutes.
The final and third place play-off will be played for 130 minutes.

With regards to prizes, Scholtz said the team that will come out first will go home with US$1 200, a trophy plus gold medals.
The first runners-up will get US$700, trophy and silver medals.
Second runners-up will receive US$400, a trophy and bronze medals.
The fourth best team will pocket US$200.
Clubs that will finish between positions five and eight will get US$50 each.
“We are expecting to have a good turnout, which is a minimum 32 teams from across the country. We are also expecting to have fierce competition,” said Scholtz.
Meanwhile, the draw of the Bulawayo Province Pool Association (BPPA) champions league competition set for Saturday and Sunday, will be held this evening at Golden Pillars.
Four venues that will host the preliminary rounds of the games are Queens Sports Club, Golden Pillars, Fast Cash and Waverley.
Golden Pillars will host the final matches of a competition that will see each participating team pay US$35 as registration fee.
The playing format will be a 5×5 race to 13 knockout.
In terms of prizes the organisers say the winners will go home with US$300 and the first runners will pocket US$150. The second runners-up will go home with US$100 and fourth best team will receive US$50. – @FungaiMuderere.
