Confirming the annual general meeting date yesterday, BPL secretary-general Charles Dube said his executive was going out happy with the hype that the sport has generated in the city and beyond.
With effect from this year, the BPL will be introducing a lower division whose winners will be promoted to the top-flight league at the end of the season.
“Our AGM has been set for 14 January and the clubs will be notified of the venue in due course. After all the formalities of an AGM that include chairman and the treasurer’s reports, we are going to have elections for new office bearers.
“On behalf of the executive, I believe we did everything possible to see the sport grow from strength to strength and that is why this year we will be having two leagues — lower and premier. We also hope that sponsors for the leagues will be secured so that we have a branded competition,” Dube said.
He could however not be drawn into revealing which members of the BPL executive committee were seeking re-election.
Samson Bhuza is chairman and his deputy is Charles Mupadzi.
The other members are treasurer Henry Chikandura, publicity secretary Patrick Chinake and fixtures secretary Desire Guruve.
