Pool team leaves for national finals

The City of Kings’ women’s team has Sipho Mpofu of ONE who will be out to defend her title, the country’s second ranked player Nomalanga Manguni-Dusart of Skittle Inn, Exchange’s Shylet Musono and Sithembiso Dube.

Donald Wadawu, the Bulawayo Pool Association spokesman said the players were raring to go and was confident that they would do well.

“Everyone is looking forward to the games and we hope our players will be among the top players at the competition. In a bid to make sure that the team is supported, we have cancelled the entire Premiership games to allow those who want to travel with the team an opportunity to go and cheer the players,” said Wadawu.

Wadawu said the Bulawayo Queens will get the tournament rolling when they take on their Harare counterparts in a challenge match set for Mushandirapamwe Hotel this evening.

With Bulawayo women having done well last year, pressure is on their male counterparts where the best player Peter Dziko only managed a top eight finish with others going out in the last 32.

Dziko will not play at this year’s edition but travels to the finals as Bulawayo’s coach.

The Bulawayo men’s team is dominated by Kings who have Geshom Nash, Paul Mutizo, Joseph Mwanza and Lloyd Chitsulo with Skittle Inn’s Tendai Muderedzva and Prince Nsingo of Western Commonage completing the line-up.

Meanwhile, all the Bulawayo Pool League Division One matches are on this weekend.
