Chenai Nyaguse (42), Tsitsi Mangosho (26), Cosmas Ushamba (44) and Edmore Dhlakama – all revenue specialists – pleaded not guilty to contravening section 26(1)(b) of the Censorship and Entertainment Act when they appeared before Harare Magistrate Mr Archie Wochiunga.
They were represented by lawyer Mr Ralph Ma- ganga and were remanded out of custody to March 29 on US$20 bail each.
Mr Maganga said his clients were being victimised because they were members of the workers union.
He said the pornographic material was not found in their possession.
“The photos and videos were not found in their computer’s inboxes and they were in the company’s server. The system was manipulated by the system administrator and they sent them to various persons as per employer’s request.
“They are being persecuted since they are members of the Zimra workers’ committee and the Zimra union,” Mr Maganga said.
In mid-October 2010, Prosecutor Mr Innocent Chingarande alleges, Zimra’s computer systems were overloaded resulting in them operating slowly.
The authority, the State says, started monitoring computer traffic and this led to the discovery of the pornographic material.
The court heard that the files were viewed by the Board of Censors, which confirmed that the files were pornographic. – CR.
