A KAMATIVI cop who was facing charges of raping his girlfriend’s niece has been acquitted after the 16-year-old girl confessed that she falsely accused him.

The girl shocked the court when she claimed she was possessed by a spirit that pushes her to make sexual advances to men and fabricate sexual abuse charges against those who show no interest in her.

She said she once falsely implicated her other uncle for rape after he showed no interest in her sexual advances.

“I have got a problem and think I am possessed by evil spirits. I have a tendency of loving men even before they propose to me and if they fail to fulfil my desires by proposing love to me, I become emotional and make false allegations just to fix them.

“I once did the same to my own uncle. I did this to the accused because I love him and he failed to propose love to me so I was only fixing him when I made this false rape allegations,” said the girl as she exonerated the accused.

John Mashoko (29) who is a boyfriend to the girl’s aunt was all smiles when the juvenile told the court that he did not sexually abuse her.

“I went to give him a grocery list which he was supposed to give to my aunt who looks after us. He escorted me but did not propose love or have sex with me. I became angry and this prompted me to make false rape allegations against him,” she told court.

Mashoko, who had no legal representation, had pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Hwange regional magistrate Mr Collet Ncube noted that there was no evidence to convict him.

The accused was arrested in January this year.
