THE Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (Potraz) has embarked on a nationwide mass public consumer awareness programme. The programme is meant to inform subscribers about their consumer rights. Potraz Public affairs manager Sibonginkosi Muteyiwa said their mandate was to inform and educate the public about their rights.
“We’ve been mandated by the government to inform and educate subscribers and the public at large. Our hope as an organisation is to make sure that people understand their rights,” she said.
“The reason why we’re carrying this mass campaign is that people were complaining about service providers. The public didn’t know that they had rights so we had to embark on such a programme to address them.
“We’re interested in listening to consumer complaints if a disagreement arises between the subscriber and the operator.”
The campaign began on Saturday in Kwekwe with a road show at Mbizo and Amaveni suburbs and was taken to Gweru on Tuesday.
Potraz said the programme would cascade to other provinces to empower and impart knowledge to the public.
StarFM radio presenters participated in the Kwekwe show where they kept the gathering on their feet with captivating entertainment.
The Zimpapers’ owned radio station also broadcast the event live and shared various consumer rights points with subscribers.
