The Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (POTRAZ) has engaged members of the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Information Communication Technology (ICT), Postal and Courier Services on the negative impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI).
The regulator organised a three-day workshop which ends today in the resort town of Kariba whose aim is to equip the parliamentarians so that they play their oversight role effectively.
The workshop is also being attended by officials from the Ministry of Information Communication Technology, Postal and Courier Services.
Potraz director general, Dr Gift Machengete said while Zimbabwe was making efforts to catch up with the rest of the world in terms of technological advancements, there was a need for enactment of laws that ensure that technology does not harm societies.
“Effective regulation is impossible without legislation hence highlighting the symbiotic relationship between POTRAZ and legislators,” said Dr Machengete.
The committee’s chairperson, Vusimuzi Moyo said the engagement was a milestone towards their legislative agenda capacitation.
Chief director in the Ministry of Information Communication Technology, Postal and Courier Services Mr Prince Sibanda said achievement of Vision 2030 was hinged on the proper use of technology.
