Most suburbs, including the CBD, went dry after the electricity failure, which resulted in city officials shutting down the main water works at Morton Jaffray. The Warren Control Pump Station receives treated water from Morton Jaffray. Warren Control Pump Station in turn pumps water to suburban reservoirs.
The suburban reservoirs like Greendale, Donnybrook, Emerald Hill, Highlands 6 and 7 and Ridge Road were already empty by early yesterday morning.
Some companies operating from the city centre had to dismiss employees because of the water challenges.
The situation is only expected to improve tomorrow. Most Harare suburbs have been facing water shortages for the past month after Morton Jaffray was affected by sewage discharged by the Norton Town Council.
Harare Water director Engineer Christopher Zvobgo said water supplies were expected to normalise by tomorrow.
He urged big institutions like hospitals to install own water reservoirs to cater for emergencies. Eng Zvobgo like institutions like the University of Zimbabwe had
reservoirs and were not affected by unexpected water cuts.
