SOME parts of Harare were affected by a major power outage yesterday following a technical fault at one of Zesa Holdings’ power sub-stations. The worst affected areas were in the west along Samora Machel Avenue and the Avenues, among others. Zesa Holdings spokesperson Mr Shepherd Mandizvidza said their engineers were making frantic efforts to restore power.
“The unplanned power outage has been caused by a technical fault at one of our sub-stations in Harare. While our engineers are investigating the nature and extent of the fault to restore supplies, efforts are being made to bring back supplies through back feed arrangements,” he said.
Mr Mandizvidza said the prevalence of electrical faults was high during the rainy season as electricity transmission and distribution networks were affected by lightning strikes, water seeping into cable joints, and trees falling on power lines. “However, the technical teams of the Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company countrywide are always on high alert to ensure that the faults recovery period are minimised,” he said.
