George Maponga in Masvingo
ZANU-PF Masvingo Urban aspiring parliamentary candidate and businessman Cde Benjamin Mazarire has urged churches in the province to rally behind President Mnangagwa in the forthcoming elections for Zimbabwe to continue on a development trajectory ushered by the new political dispensation.
Cde Mazarire, who is also patron of the Zimbabwe Youths in Mining Foundation, is one of the three candidates who are vying for the ZANU-PF ticket in Masvingo Urban in the forthcoming primary elections.
He will square up against housing developer Cde Goddard Dunira and prominent hotelier Cde Eddison Zvobgo (Jnr) after being given the all clear to contest in primary elections set for next Sunday.
Cde Mazarire said President Mnangagwa’s ascension to power was a harbinger of good times for Zimbabwe.
Addressing congregants after donating building materials worth $5 000 to the Roman Catholic Mavhura parish near Ngomahuru in Masvingo West, Mr Mazarire also urged churches to pray for peace as the country braces for polls this year.
Cde Mazarire urged churches and the majority of Zimbabweans to give President Mnangagwa ample time to finish his task of restoring Zimbabwe to its glorious old days when the country was one of the major economies in the sadc region.
“My appeal to you as churches is that we must pray for peace as the country gears for elections this year. I am also appealing to churches to give our new President a chance and overwhelmingly vote for him so that he completes his mission of restoring Zimbabwe to the path of prosperity.
“President Mnangagwa’s rise to the Presidency was achieved because of the power of God and churches should continue leading the country in prayers so that he leads Zimbabwe to the promised land. Churches have to overwhelmingly vote for President Mnangagwa because he has also shown that he fears God,’’ he said.
He said Zimbabwe has potential to quickly grow into a major economy in the region, again thanks to its vast natural resources and a deep human resource base.
“We have the resources that we can exploit to drive our economy and we also boast of a skilled workforce because of our advanced education system and the new direction that our country is now taking under President Mnangagwa will no doubt catapult our country to economic prosperity in the near future.’’
Cde Mazarire hailed President Mnangagwa for his pro-investment approach, saying the move will open Zimbabwe to new opportunities that will eliminate the twin challenges of unemployment and stunted economic growth to boost people’s living standards.
“I also want to urge youths to register in large numbers and vote for President Mnangagwa because during the short time he has been in office, there are indications that he is concerned about the future generations,’’ said Mr Mazarire.
Mr Mazarire said the youths should draw inspiration from President Mnangagwa’s life.
“We have an active listener of the person of President Mnangagwa, a freedom fighter who appreciates the sacrifices made during the war of liberation. The youths should emulate him for his approach to our economics, politics and even social life.
“We were blessed with a number of endowments that we should tap to our competitive advantage, as a province and nation at large.”
