Traditional leaders have been urged to spearhead the fight against politically motivated violence while campaigning for peaceful and harmonious co-existence among Zimbabweans ahead of the July 30 harmonised elections.
Addressing traditional leaders in Chinhoyi early this week, Zanu-PF national secretary for gender and culture Cde Kenneth Musanhi said chiefs must be at forefront preaching the gospel of peace. He said the chiefs should take cue from President Mnangagwa in the call for peace before, during and after the harmonised elections.
“Our President is always calling for credible, free and fair election. Let us spread the same message of peace to our communities. We need a peaceful political atmosphere before, during and after the election,’’ he said.
“Our culture is always characterised by non-violence and we, as Zimbabweans, are well known for our humility and discipline.”
Cde Musanhi said Parliament should craft laws that promote respect for traditional leaders. “Culture contradicts much with the current Constitution and you can also realise that magistrates usually reverse judgments by traditional leaders. That alone diminishes your powers,” he said.
