PREDATOR IN THE FAMILY: Uncle jailed 15 years for attempted rape of niece

A 34-year-old man has been sentenced to an effective 15 years in prison after being convicted of attempted rape.
The Mutare Regional Magistrates’ Court heard that on 24 December 2025 at around 10PM, the woman was asleep in her bedroom with her children when her uncle entered the room and tried to remove her clothing, intending to rape her.

The victim woke up and screamed for help. During the struggle, the offender grabbed her by the neck in an attempt to silence her.

Her son, who was awakened by the noise, rushed in and intervened, forcing the attacker to flee. The incident was later reported to the police.
Confirming the sentence, the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) said it sends a strong warning that sexual violence, particularly attempted sexual offences committed by relatives who abuse positions of trust, will be met with the full force of the law.
