Tuesday’s deadline brought about the end of the PRICIEST window in Prem history.
The 20 clubs in England’s top flight spent over £3BILLION reinforcing their respective squads.
Manchester City were the biggest spenders, dropping a whopping £427MILLION in a spree which saw them sign Elliot Anderson and Enzo Fernandez for £116m and £125m respectively.
The duo, 23 and 25 respectively, will no doubt be on monster pay packets that will have driven up City’s wage bill.
But the Sky Blues aren’t top of the Prem pile when it comes to increased player wages.
Following the closure of the transfer window, Research by BOYLE Sports football odds calculated the estimated annual wage changes for clubs during the transfer window.
And it emerged that Tottenham Hotspur had the BIGGEST increase in wages thanks to their summer splurge, in which they signed Sandro Tonali, Savio and Matheus Fernandes for a combined £270m.
They have also taken on the wages of Chelsea outcast Mykhailo Mudryk, which have contributed to a whopping £79.3M increase in annual player salaries at the north London club.
They partially offset that outlay by knocking off £39.1M of wages off their books, which equalled a net change of £40.2M
The newly promoted sides round off the top four, with Hull City, Ipswich Town and Coventry City sitting in second, third and fourth place respectively.
Hull had a net change of £29.8M, having taken on £33.8M in wages and getting rid of £4M worth of player salaries.
Ipswich had a net change of £24.9m, having taken on £34.4M worth of wages and selling players with a combined annual salary of £9.5M.
Coventry City had a £21.6M net change as they got rid of £2.7M worth of salaries, although they took on £24.3M worth of wages.
The bottom three in the list makes for surprising reading.
Despite being the biggest spenders of the window, City are rock bottom of the table.
They took on £44.2M worth of wages, but got a whopping £99.4M off the books. That led to a net change of -£55.2 for the Citizens.
Chelsea are 19th in the table with a net wage change of -£19M.
The Blues have taken on £50.6M worth of wages while getting rid of players who had a combined annual salary of £69.6M.
Newcastle round out the bottom three with a net change of -£17.6.
The Magpies took on £27.8M worth of wages while offloading combined annual salaries of £45.4M
Manchester United are 17th in the table with a net change of -£13.6M after taking on £20.6M worth of wages and offloading players with a combined annual salary of £34.2M.
And defending Prem champions Arsenal’s net change of -£3M, which they racked up by picking up £31.4M worth of wages and getting £34.4M off their books.
With the window now closed and the season in full swing, fans will be praying their teams’ respective dealings in the transfer window bear fruit .—Sun.
