PREPARATIONS are underway for a Level 2 Hockey Coaching Course to be conducted by Matabeleland Hockey Board early next month.
This two-day development programme will take place on 5 and 6 October and is targeting both male as well as female coaches. It will run for a total of 16 hours at Girls College as well as Khumalo Hockey stadium.
According to Osler Werrett, the MHB officer in charge of coaching, management and selectors said the aim of the course is to offer coaches who have never had a chance to attend coaching courses a platform to learn modern ways of the game.
“The aim of this course is to give a platform as well as an opportunity to coaches who have been coaching hockey for many years but have never had a chance to train in order to acquire recognised and certified qualification accepted internationally as well as by the Sports and
Recreation Commission alongside Hockey Association of Zimbabwe. It will give these coaches a chance to add something to the CVs as well as the chance to coach the national teams at different levels. At the same time this course will open more avenues for the coaches within the field like being legible for internationally recognised training programmes,” said Werrett.
At the end of the course, participants are expected to be able to practice coaching at the highest level that includes national teams in their respective levels.
The highest instructor from the group is Antony Five, a holder of an FIH Level 2 hockey coaching certificate, an internationally recognised qualification.
