adminSpeaking in an interview after the swearing-in ceremony, Justice Hlatshwayo said he was humbled by the appointment and pledged to carry out his work diligently.
“It is an appointment that I accept with humility because it is an appointment with public trust and is something to look forward to especially in light of the new constitution that is coming in.
“I am also hopeful it (new constitution) will usher in a new age of constitutionalism,” Justice Hlatshwayo said.
Justice Patel was also delighted with his appointment.
“It is a wonderful day for me personally. I hope that both of us will add something to the Supreme Court especially with the new constitution coming,” he said.
The swearing-in ceremony was also attended by the Minister of Justice and Legal Affairs Cde Patrick Chinamasa, Attorney General Johannes Tomana, Chief Justice Godfrey Chidyausiku and other senior government officials.
Justice Hlatshwayo was appointed to the High Court in 2000 and has over 25 years experience as a lawyer.
He obtained a law degree at the University of Zimbabwe and a Masters degree at Harvard University.
Justice Patel was appointed High Court judge in 2004 and has also worked as the deputy and acting attorney general.
